I was buying a book from an eBay seller dirt cheap and checked to see what else he had in inventory. I saw this vampire novel and decided to give it a whirl.
Mistake.
Michael Romkey is a book reviewer, so I had high hopes for a great story. Instead what I got was this guy's version of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, only more annoying which I didn't think was possible.
The concept is stupid. Every great mind in history, good or evil, was vampiric. None of the characters were likable. The main character, a fledgling vampire was some sort of great white hope for the good vampires, aka, The Illuminati. They took that name because they can walk in sunlight. I could live with vampires walking in daylight. Bram Stoker's Dracula walked in daylight. That's actually a very slick twist. But everything else was boring nonsense about these vapid wealthy individuals who were granted the gift of immortality through the blood.
Reading this book was a chore, and I wouldn't suggest that anyone else endeavor to attempt it either. Not worth the time or even a penny of hard earned money. Pass on this tome that's better off forgotten.
