I don't like admitting it, but I seem to love Adam Sandler movies. I used to see them when he was new to the movie scene, gave up when everyone hailed him as God's gift to comedy, and just went back to enjoying his brand of humor. His latest effort is You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Here's the story in a nutshell, a bad-ass Israeli agent fakes his own death so he can go to the US and become a hairdresser, leaving the war-torn Middle East behind. In the process he mends troubles in a neighborhood split by the same differences he left in Israel, yet manages to fall in love with Dalia (played by Emmanuelle Chriqui, see below) a Palestinian girl who also happens to be the sister of his greatest adversary, The Phantom. Of course everything winds up great in the end, but getting there is a bumpy road of humor.
If you like silly humor, as always, you go with Sandler. If you want a thinking man's comedy, pass on this. There are holes and pitfalls in this story that are pretty obvious, so you can't take any part of this seriously. Hey, it's a comedy, it's supposed to be ridiculous. If you just want to laugh at hummus and dick jokes, however, this is the movie for you.

Adam Sandler tends to do his best work when he stays casual, not trying too hard to be funny or deep, etc.
