Turtle Thursday: When Turtles Cry

Turtles do not have tear ducts, they rely on external sources to provide their eyes with moisture. So they cannot "cry" like the way we, humans, understand it to be. However, this week, we started Dante off on his new diet. The little guy is a very aggressive eater so I have to separate him from the rest of the herd during feeding time. When I put him in his holding bin he began to panic.

Then it happened.

He started making whining sounds, like a dog's cry. And my heart broke. I don't know how I'll keep doing this to the little guy if he's going to cry every morning.
