On TV: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Season 2 Premiere

About a year ago when I heard that a television show based on The Terminator was going to be running on Fox from mid season, I held little hope that it would be decent. I think I was more interested to see Lena Headley as Sarah Connor. If you may recall she played the Queen in 300 and is credited as being the best part in one of the sexiest love scenes in any non-porn movie ever. Plus, with the buzz about next year's new movie in the franchise, Terminator Salvation, with Christian Bale as John Connor just had me wanting to see some new Terminator material.

All that aside, I missed much of the first season the first time around because of tax season and conference calls. I was able to catch up with the story when they re-ran them all a couple weeks ago. I must say, the show greatly surpassed any expectations I might have had.

So last night was the season premiere. I was really stoked for two reasons:

  1. Cameron was blown up in the season finale.
  2. Shirley Manson was going to be introduced as a new character.

The new season picks up from the exact moment the last season ended. Loads of action from the very start and kept me glued to the screen for the full hour. The story around the damaged Cameron (Summer Glau) stalking Sarah and John Connor (Thomas Dekker) was great. The establishing of the new big villain, Catherine Weaver (Shirley Manson, singer of Garbage) who appears to be the same sort of shape shifting liquid metal terminator that Robert Patrick was in T2 the T-1000. Her accent is a little harsh, Scottish I believe, and she's not really easy on the eyes, so it not hard to accept her as evil.

Honestly, I think they could've made a killer two hour premier, but they chose not to. They just jammed in a bunch of new stuff into a single hour. Now I'm DYING for more. Kudos! Well done! I can't wait for more.
