This was the second time we've gone to Barbados. We went in 2005 because Katrina hit New Orleans, where we had planned to go for Halloween, and the city was still in ruin. Hell, New Orleans is STILL in partial ruin, but I digress. So we needed to find someplace else to go. Mrs. Baxojayz, a master at making vacation arrangements caught an awesome last minute deal going to Barbados. We went. We loved it. We decided to go back this year.
We stayed at the Amaryllis Resort. It's pretty close to the southern tip of the island where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet. As a result, the beach on the complex has it's calm days and it's rough days. The resort, itself was lovely. There lovely birds, lizards, and other small wildlife around to be seen. It's convenient to a general store, transportation, and food. The resort sets up trips to the city, and any other excursions you may want to go on.
We went to town once, checked out the shopping, duty free, and the best local cuisine at Mustors. If you ever go to Barbados you MUST try the flying fish with rice and field peas at Mustors. Delicious! Other than that, town can get boring fast when you realize nothing is really a bargain, and it's pretty damned hot in the sun.
We went to Oistin's Fish Fry. This is only open Friday and Saturday nights. For very little money you can eat like a king. The fish are brought in from the boats mere feet away, so you know you're eating the finest and freshest food available.
People on the compound, and the entire island are pretty helpful and won't hassle you. The First time we went we were a little put off since we used the little mini-van buses a lot more and saw a man brandishing a huge knife in the back seat like nothing. Earlier that same night we were offered cocaine at Oistin's. But it's not like this was the only island that happened. Try to go to Jamaica and NOT have someone offer you drugs!
Anyhow, we were there for eight days and seven nights. The deal my wife got for it was amazing and we got an awesome and we couldn't be happier. I'd call this vacation an all around good time and a time well spent resting. If we were there for any longer than we were we might've gone stir crazy, however.

I'm guessing there was a lot of Amaryllis planted near where you stayed.
