Last week I mentioned that while we were in Barbados we went on a snorkeling excursion. It was appropriately named, "Swimming With the Turtles." While they cannot guarantee the turtles will be there when you visit, it sure seems the turtles keep their appointments. Perhaps it's the promise of some fresh fish for a snack that keeps the turtles returning for the delight of tourists and locals alike.
I recall swimming with very large green sea turtles the first time we went to Barbados. This time the same breed was still present, but they seemed much smaller this time. Also, they were accompanied by a Hawksbill, whose pictures I posted a week ago.
Green sea turtles are also endangered, but the outlook isn't as bleak as that of the Hawksbill. Both have been hunted for their meat and shells. Hopefully it'll come to the point that the turtle farms and protected nesting grounds are able to get the population up to better numbers.
