I know I usually post reviews on Tuesdays, but last night had the opportunity to check out a preview of the latest Disney effort in IMAX, Earth and today is Earth Day, so why not?
This is just your regular nature documentary. It's about the hardships of animal life around the world. It jumps fitfully from one region of the planet to another, never concentrating on any one aspect for too long. But there were some recurring themes: the polar bear family, the elephant family, and the whale family. The rest is animal filler. Glimpses here and there. There were some rather violent images in the film showing various predators making the kill.
Some people might feel inclined to bring their children to see this. It's 90+ minutes and judging from the reactions of children in the theater when i was there, you might be better off leaving them at home. Kids were either bored to sleep, or bored cranky. Either way, they didn't seem to enjoy it a ton.
I saw reviews stating that Earth is better than March of the Penguins. I don't agree. Earth is just a bunch of wildlife clips, and most seem like stuff you've already seen on television.
All in all, the IMAX experience was nice. The clarity of sound and moving image were unbelievable. But the content was only okay. Nothing new. I wouldn't call this a must see film.
