Review:The end of The Sarah Connor Chronicles?

One of my all time favorite sci-fi franchises is THE TERMINATOR. I didn't mind when they played Bad to The Bone in T2, I didn't mind anything about T3. When they brought Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles to television, I was all too happy to give it a chance.

The first season was cut short by the Hollywood writers' strike. I would say that season ran hot and cold. The second season was running all over the place too, but was certainly improved. Everyone I know who watched it agreed that as the episodes progressed, the show only get better. Then finally the show came to it's shocking season finale. As it turns out, the death warrant was written for this show BEFORE this season even got started. So we're left with a cliff hanger and the theories what it all means are already abound.

I'll digress. This series starts somewhere between the movies T2 and T3. Sarah Connor is still alive. John is high school age. They are joined by a female terminator named Cameron. She uses a time machine to jump forward in time by 10 years to hide out from enemies who were tracking them down. At that time they are joined by Derek Reese, the brother of Kyle who was John's father. A somewhat complicated story developed while John and Sarah tried to fight the potential future.

By the time of the final episode Derek had been killed on a mission. Cameron swaps places with another terminator, and what appeared to be the villain of the entire series, a T-1000 in the place of a Ms. Weaver swoops John off to the future. And that's the end. John's in a future that he is NOT the military saviour of the humans. He's just a kid. And stranded. Which leaves a viewer wondering, what's going to happen next? And the answer is, we'll never know. The show is considered dead at this time and no new episodes will be forthcoming.

I should've known that a show I liked would end up getting the axe. Oh well. It was fun to watch while it lasted. I plan on getting the DVDs in case there's any more insight.

More on the demise here:

Yeah, I hate when that happens! I'm a big fan of the first two but never got around to the third movie. I have to say I was skeptical about the TV series, hoping it wouldn't be a case of dragging a great concept into the ground. That's the great thing though, about dvds - you can get caught up any time you miss a show, or a series for that matter. I remember having ten hour long marathons for shows like Arrested Development, The Wire, and Weeds - always good fun. Anyhow, thanks for the great rundown here. I'll have to give it a chance then.

Mmm, I am a huge T1 an T2 fan myself and since I heard eccellent things about The Cronicles I wanted to give it a try... but now I wonder if I should, as I fear I'd end up feeling as disappointed as I was by Twin Peaks (and boy, wans't that a looong time ago! LOL). Consider that over here we are pretty behind with telefilms and we've only had the fist season of this one so far, I think, but I usually try to watch stuff in English from DVD/Divx sources...

The second season was definitely better than the first. You WILL be angry with the wide open ending of the series finale.
