Turtle Thursday: Bask

Turtles, like all reptiles, are cold-blooded. They get body heat through their environment, namely, by basking in the sun. In my tank the closest thing I have to the sun is a floodlight and a full spectrum light. Between the two, the pets get the same benefit as if they were out in the sun. Pictured above you'll see Dante using Snappy as his chaise lounge for a glorious afternoon bask. Quite the life!
Pic by Mrs. Bax0jayz, taken on an Olympus FE-210, I think.

Nice shot Bob! I think a lot of people don't realize how important it is to use such lighting when taking care of turtles. I'm glad these two can get a long together...I always wonder which species fare well with eachother, and which ones don't.

Thanks Steve.

We've come to the conclusion that mixing up the breeds works better than having only one. When we had all the red ear sliders together the fighting was nonstop. With our current mix they seem to get along very well. Only occasional minor injuries.

I captured a turtle on my driveway this morning. I put a ceramic flower pot over him until I get back home. I'll post his picture next week, perhaps on the Bar & Grill's most famous feature : Turtle Thursday, lol !

LOL! I'd love to see that!

Steve, who commented earlier, invented Turtle Thursday. It would be funny if yet another blog picked it up too!

I'll do it at least once, anyway, lol.
