I don't get it. Anyone else who puts out shitty movies gets panned as a purveyor of shit films. But if Quentin Tarantino does it as an homage to the shitty-movie genre, it's pure genius. A couple friends said I should forget all the hype and watch this double feature anyway. My thoughts:
Planet Terror (2007)
I was told that this is is your typical over-the-top zombie movie. Since I usually like zombie movies that was all I needed to hear. There was the usual conspiracy about how an experiment went wrong turning people into zombies. The story was weak. The over-acting was cheesy. The "missing reel" part was just pathetic. Rose McGowan as a stripper with a machine leg was just plain stupid. The only part I liked was when Fergie from the Black Eyes Peas got eaten by zombies. Tarantino played the zombie who bit her ass. That's a job I would've liked to have! Other than that, I'd call this a bad zombie movie not even worth watching. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1077258/
And the other piece of shit:
Death Proof (2007)
A friend raved about this movie. "Kurt Russell is GREAT in that movie! You gotta see it!" I was told, so I saved this one for the last of the double feature. Kurt plays Stuntman Bill. He drives cars in movies that are built to be Death Proof for the driver. But anyone NOT in the driver's seat is fair game. Bill seems to have a hard-on for hot chicks, but not in a normal way. He just likes killing them and making it seem like an accident. So the movie starts off with a bunch of annoying chatty brawds getting all philosophical but something. I wasn't paying attention. It was boring me to no end and I was looking for a razor to slash my wrists open with because of the incessant droning on. The girls leave the bar. Bill kills them. Those watching are left asking, WTF? In the next scene another bunch of girls stumble into Stuntman Bill's domain. After a WAY TOO LONG car chase scene, the girls literally end up taking turns kicking Bill's ass. Worst ending ever. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1028528/
In conclusion I would like to say that both movies are pure shit and not worth the time that you'd invest in watching them. No wonder they tanked in the theaters, people finally got tired of being told that you HAVE to love anything that Tarantino touches. He's a hack and should be treated as such.

Hmm. I thought you posted something about this last week, lol.
Again, I must say I enjoyed BOTH of these films, but then again, I dig cheesy 70's style films.
However, Do I think Tarantino is the genius everyone builds him up to be ? NO.
I basically think he's a freak that missed a damn good opportunity to be a flaming homosexual (if he actually ISN'T one) that's happened to make some films that are simply a throwback to a different era, if you will, but so far I've liked most of his stuff.
I'm sure he'll put out one soon enough that I consider a real STINKER.
"Inglourious Basterds" MAY be that film !
Last week I mentioned MACHETE. Then I realized I never posted my review of Grindhouse. This was as good a chance as any.
I think Tarantino has had a charmed life. He bullshits about how profound he is and has actually convinced many people of that fact.
I find his work to be largely dull with scatterings of impressive action or surreal drama tossed in there. I won't lie, I definitely let my preconceived notions take over me when I watched these, and I was all too eager to hate the movies.
That aside, I am actually looking forward to Basterds. I hope he does something completely unlikely and allows the Jewish-American death squad to kill the entire Third Reich Brass. It would take serious cojones to rewrite history like that!
