Last weekend the wife and I took a little road trip to the Poconos. She had a credit on Expedia or Orbitz or some vacation site like that so she decided to use it up for this trip. She booked us into the Flower Field Motel & Cottages. Sounds nice, right? We thought so too. Imagine getting a little cottage, look out the window and see chipmunks running out in the field, hearing the songs of birds.
We couldn't be more wrong. They gave us the first cottage by the office. That happened to be where the owners parked their TWO TRUCKS right in front of our door. I was immediately discouraged because I couldn't even park my car in front of the room we were paying for. The nearest spot was next to the pool filled with emerald green water in it. No matter, we'll make the best of it. We opened the door and are welcomed by stench. My wife defended the place, "It's probably because of the heat, let's put on the air conditioning."
That was when we observed the rest of the room. Most of the furniture was home-made. No remote for the TV. A muddy foot print on the floor. The dingiest looking bathroom I have ever seen, complete with used cakes of soap on the floor and hair in the shower. The nightstands had cigarette burns all the way around. Green hot dogs in the freezer. The ceramic tiles made crunching sounds underfoot. We were pleased that at least the towels and bed linens looked and smelled sterile. The place had the wreak of heavy cigarette smoke.
I would best describe it as looking and feeling a lot like a motel from a horror film, specifically VACANCY. I rigged up things to jingle if anyone came through the doors. BTW, no deadbolt on the front door.
We didn't have our room serviced because we didn't put the "Please Service Room" card on our door. Our room DIDN'T HAVE the card to put out and the lady got annoyed with us that we didn't know better. She handed us our clean towels and the card that we were supposed to have on the door.
Nope. I would have to say this was NOT a great place to stay. Both mornings I awoke to the sound of the owner getting in his truck to get his morning coffee. He LOVED to rev that V8 past 4000 RPM before pulling out.
The Poconos can be fun, pleasant, restful, etc. but don't ruin your experience with this place. Running a nice place is not inbred into these people.
