In the cinema: Paranormal Activity

Last Friday was my birthday so my wife and I decided to do a dinner and movie date for the occasion. We chose to feed the Paranormal Activity juggernaut.

In a nutshell, this is a movie about a couple being haunted by some demonic presence. They documented the evidence and it was packaged for theater goers. That's the story, but it's obviously not true, like the Blair Witch Project or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

You get to watch as the couple continues to do things to provoke the entity in their home and how it reacts by stepping up the attacks.

There's a lot of suspense, but since you rarely get to see anything it's hard to get scared. There are a couple times that the suspense builds up to the point that when something finally happens everyone in the theater jumps out of their seats. But even after the ending you never really feel scared or suffer any "lasting effects."

If you liked Blair Witch, you might like this because it's similar, but with the camera on a tripod. But I think it might actually be creepier to watch at home when it comes out on DVD.
