In Print: You Only Live Twice by Ian Fleming (1964)

After the murder of his wife in the previous book, James Bond ran into difficulty being effective at his job. He was sent on a mission to Japan to open an information pipeline as a job he couldn't screw up.

While opening relations with the Japanese Secret Services they ask Bond to eliminate a little problem on the island. A foreigner set up a sort of morbid Disneyland for suicidal citizens. It's Bond's job to kill this man. As it turned out, this foreigner turns out to be Bond's archnemesis (and murderer of his wife) the evil Blofeld.

The book is about the task of getting into the compound and getting the job done. Let's just say that Bond is very "hands on" to do what needs to be done. The book ends up with Bond suffering from memory loss and impregnating a local girl. Some very loose ends! A fun adventure!
NOTE: The title cames from a poem that Bond writes during the story: You only live twice:
Once when you are born
And once when you look death in the face.
