Last night I had the opportunity to see the band Shirock play at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. That's pronounced SHY-ROK, okay?
The five members of the band took to the stage at 7:30. You have your usual configuration of: drummer, bassist, guitarist, keys / vox, and singer / additional guitars. Every member of Shirock plays their instrument well, and the singers have amazing voices. Apparently they gets it's name from the singer Chuck Shirock, who founded the band over a decade ago. Chuck and Pap (the keyboardist) do the songwriting. The music these kids create is just beautiful. It's really nice, pleasant rock with a edge to to it. Since I tend to agree with Sting's statement, "A band is only as good as it's drummer," I'd have to say that the band is excellent. The drummer is quite talented and really keeps the beats fresh and not repetitive.

Their forty minute set was a blast. Despite how small the venue was, they were able to use their traveling light show which created a feel of big stage grandeur. One great song after another. If I knew their music better, I'd say what song was my fav, but I just can't seem to remember song titles anymore. But I can say, all songs went off without a hitch. Everyone's levels were appropriate. They did a great job. Pap has the voice of an angel. [Photo cred: Mrs. Bax0jayz]
I recommend this band if you want to try out some new music or are able to catch them on the road.

Great review!!!
I have seen this band twice (not at the Merc, though) and they blew me away both times. Their record is UNREAL. I listen to their record and I can't believe they aren't already huge.
