In the theater: Next Fall

Tomorrow is my 9th wedding anniversary with Mrs. Bax0jayz. Realizing that we haven't seen a show in a LONG time, she got us tickets for the show, "Next Fall." She was under the impression that it was a dramatic comedy, so she was sold!

The show starts off with a car accident that leaves Luke in the hospital on life support. The rest of the show is flashbacks to happier times with Luke from the perspectives of his parents, friends, and his lover, Adam.

There are a couple recurring themes in the show. One is religion. Luke is very religious, and it seems to bother Adam A LOT because he loves to jump all over the religious insanity. The irony about that is Adam is a hypochondriac, but Luke is supportive of Adam and tries to ease his mind over his insanity. The other theme is that Luke never came out of the closet and told his parents that he's gay. His excuse was, "next fall, wen my brother goes to college." But by the time Luke is in the accident the brother is a junior in college and still hadn't told his parents.

You would figure that a show about a young man dying from an injury in an accident would be very very serious, but it's peppered with humor and keeps your attention. Well most of the time. The show runs at least two and a half hours and that last 30 minutes really wears on you. I know I was thinking about the jokes that flopped and flashbacks that were pointless that could've been dropped to save 15 minutes or so. But all in all, it was a good show.
