Review Tuesday - Life, The Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams

Life, The Universe and Everything: The Cosmic Conclusion to the Hitchhiker's Trilogy!
Continuing on with the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy, next up is Life, The Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams. And it IS a continuation from right where The Restaurant at the End of the Universe ended.

The main characters are scattered all across time and the galaxy from the very beginning. A set of events which could ultimately end up with the destruction of the universe gets the entire team, including Slartibartfast from the first book, all back together. Their goal is to defeat this ancient enemy of the universe before all life is eradicated.

I was told this book was where the jokes start getting stale. I agree that the bistromath spaceship was absurd bordering on annoying. Other than that, I was okay with the rest of it. The jokes were fine. The story was compelling. Marvin made a dramatic return and stole his scenes.

If you didn't read the previous books, I would not suggest starting off with this one. On it's own I'm not so sure the pay off is worth it. However, if you read the others, I say go for this one too. It fits on very well in the galaxy of the Hitchhiker's Guide.
