Review Tuesday - On CD: Goodbye New York by Amy Coleman

Goodbye New YorkThis CD recently came across my desk so it's next up for review.

Out of Brooklyn, NY comes Amy Coleman. The new album is called Goodbye New York. Her style of music is listed as "Blues, Rock, Soul, Alternative" but there's a serving of jazz feel in there too.

The record is am ambitious collection of 10 very strong songs, but each with a distinct personality. I've listened to albums that are the same thing over and over, none of that here! The vocals and music pull you into her world and enchant you. Amy's voice reminds me more of Marianne Faithful than the Janis Joplin comparisons I have read, but she's really her own person. I wouldn't stick too closely to what anyone else says.

The music is haunting, happy, sad, picks you up, grandiose, and mellows you out. Over the course of ten tracks you will go through the gambit of emotions. Buckle up, it's a fun ride! Be sure to give Amy Coleman a listen!
