Review Tuesday: Tropic Thunder

I recently mentioned to a couple friends that I hadn't gotten around to seeing Tropic Thunder yet and I was told to get it done ASAP. So I did.

The concept of this comedy is that a collection of prima-donna actors are thrown together in a blockbuster Vietnam movie that's just not coming together well. So to get more realism out of the cast, the director drags them out into the jungles and that's when mayhem ensues.

Not only are these guys dropped into a jungle, but it's a jungle that's hostile with drug runners. So, unwittingly, the cast is forced to fight for their lives while thinking it's all just for the camera.

The cast is PERFECT. Ben Stiller does his usual over-the-top-clueless-guy in this movie, but is balanced out with Jack Black and the brilliance of Robert Downey Jr as it all goes together PERFECTLY. Yeah, it's stupid and moronic through much of the movie, but that's the humor of it. Not to mention IT'S A COMEDY. So suck it up. It can be ridiculous, as long as the punchlines are funny.

If you haven't see it yet, GET TO IT! It's well worth the investment of time for the pay-off of t3h funny! There's also a Director's Cut if that stuff tickles your fancy.
