REVIEW TUESDAY: In the cinema - Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: Los AngelesBattle: Los Angeles was the #1 movie in ticket sales last weekend. I helped contribute to the take, so I'll pass along my thoughts.

If you haven't heard, the movie is about a worldwide alien invasion. They are here to take our water because it's in liquid form. Every major city is attacked in a coordinated effort with advanced weaponry and soldiers that are very difficult to kill. Cities around the world are falling fast. The last city on the West Coast of the United States left standing is Los Angeles. The US forces are concentrated there to make a stand and to reclaim the city. The movie follows a group of Marines as they make their way through LA trying to rescue civilians before a massive defensive air strike begins.

The movie is really about the undying commitment that these soldiers have to protecting the US and her citizens. It's a good two hours of blood, sweat and tears of what these guys went through to get done what needed to be done.

The special effects were AMAZING. The cast was well chosen. The story was consistent. All in all, if you like sci-fi and/or military films, you'll be riveted to this one. Plus there are all sorts of personality clashes and situations that need tending to along the way, so it's not just a shoot 'em up. It does have that feeling like it's familiar, best description might be a cross between Independence day and Blackhawk Down. Still, worth watching!

If you're one of those people who rolls his eyes at Gung-Ho US Military movies, you'll hate this. But if you know a soldier, you'll LOVE this because you already know that the heart these guys have on screen isn't embellished AT ALL. Every person in the US who wears a uniform and vows to protect lives are ALL really that brave.
