A sultry, enigmatic presence in global ad campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger Denim and Calvin Klein’s ck one, and a media darling who’s been featured in Teen Vogue, V, Interview, Nylon, Marie Claire, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly and more, 18-year-old singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira continues to build on the buzz surrounding her with the release of As If! — a digital EP that will be available from all digital retailers beginning March 22nd. The lead-off track, “Sex Rules,” is currently for sale on iTunes.
The five brand-new tracks will tide fans over until Ferreira’s debut album due out on Capitol Records this summer. Ferreira has been in London and Sweden working on the album — a sparkling collection of electronic pop tunes that combine lustrous melodies with spare, digitized beats — with a host of A-list songwriters and producers, including Swedish hitmakers Bloodshy & Avant (whom Ferreira worked with after reaching out to them on MySpace when she was 15), Greg Kurstin, Dallas Austin and Teddybears.
As If! follows on the heels of Ferreira’s three successful tracks “17,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr4EQtoY2lo) “One,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxFFJu7RVuk) and “Obsession,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMvWA7Vv96w) music that Entertainment Weekly has called “infectious, surprisingly sophisticated dance-floor electronica.” “Obsession” (written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder) appeared on “Now What’s Next” as a bonus track on the digital version of Now That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 35 and on the soundtrack to the CW show The Vampire Diaries.
Ferreira’s kittenish looks and free-spirited sense of personal style led to her being chosen to appear in the youthful cast of musicians, DJ’s, models, artists, and athletes starring in the edgy global advertising campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger’s Kids of America Spring/Summer 2011 Denim collection and Calvin Klein’s ck one Spring 2011 lifestyle line, which was conceived by creative director Fabien Baron and shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel.
Ferreira also stars in Matt Porterfield’s independent film Putty Hill. This innovative narrative feature is anchored by Ferreira’s performance as Jenny, a teen struggling to find direction amidst the loss of her cousin in Baltimore. Putty Hill has garnered acclaim from top film critics around the world, as well as major festival attention and awards following premieres at SXSW and the Berlin International Film Festival. The film opened in February at The Cinema Guild at Cinema Village in New York City.
The track-listing for As If! is as follows:
“Sex Rules”“Traces”“Haters Anonymous”“99 Tears”“108”
