Review Tuesday: Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: The First Avenger (Film) Junior Novel (Junior Novelization)I used to collect comic books in my youth, but Captain America was never a title I picked up. He always seemed like a goofy, nationalistic, super Boy Scout. Even up until recently, when they started pushing this movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, I had very little interest in seeing it. That is, until pics were being leaked and the movie actually looked SERIOUS.

And serious it IS. When a 90 pound weakling from Brooklyn is desperate to join the Army to do his part in WW2, he's chosen for a special super soldier project. At first he's a puppet for public relations, but finally gets to hit the field and test his battle-worthiness exactly during a time that HYDRA, a branch of the Nazis, is about to change the pace of the war.

The movie has about everything for a good screen adaptation of a comic book. The hero has to be true of heart, but not perfect. That would be Chris Evans doing a bang-up job as Captain America. They make a joke out of the uniform from the comic. They make it dark. Make the characters almost believable. The villain, The Red Skull played by Hugo Weaving, was perfectly evil. And you gotta have a hot love interest, Agent Carter played by Hayley Atwell. This movie has it all.

The movie is more than TWO FULL HOURS, but it moves very well and it's very enjoyable. Every person is perfectly chosen for the role. Well worth seeing, and I DO mean on the big screen. I don't think the 3D was necessary, but you kinda have no choice.

And don't forget to hang out AFTER the credits. There's a little teaser for next year's AVENGERS movie. Here's a hint: Spiderman and Batman won't be in it. LOL

This is one of the few super-hero movies that the hero does NOT get the girl in the end. And what a girl! Hubba hubba!
