Review Tuesday: How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying

I haven't been to a Broadway Show in a while. So when a client gave me a couple tickets for HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, I couldn't resist!

This is the story of a young ambitious man with high energy trying to climb the corporate ladder of World Wide Wickets as quickly as possible.

You've probably heard of this show. It's a revival of a show that first hit Broadway during the 50s. The names making this a big draw are Daniel Radcliffe as J. Pierrepont Finch and John Larroquette as J. B. Bigley. The rest of the huge cast are largely lesser known names, except for the narrator, whose voice is Anderson Cooper.

The cast sing and dance and are SO together that you may be surprised. But there was some other dynamics at work during this show. There was a huge number of young ladies dressed like high class call girls in the audience, I suppose, trying to attract Harry Potter's eye. Also, the show is dated, and many people in the audience may have trouble identifying with it. The ladies who sat on either side of me were both snoozing during the show. You'll never see that at Phantom.

Regardless, I thought Larroquette stole the show. Dan Fielding (his character from night Court) stood out in his Biggley, and it was quite brilliant! Radcliffe as Finch was good, but he didn't seem as good as the other guys int he cast. something just seemed missing. But he wasn't bad as a lead man. Just, not awe-inspiring.

All in all, I would call this show fun. It's entertaining. It's got singing and dancing. It's what Broadway is all about.
