It's no secret, your humble narrator enjoys getting in touch with his geekier side here and there. Earlier in the year I flew to the Carolinas to check out the Heroe's Con, which is touted as the convention for the artists. It was a dumpy, sleepy, boring waste of time and energy. I didn't think that way back then, but I sure do now after going to NEW YORK COMIC CON.

What makes this show superior is the sheer SIZE of it. Having a comic book convention at NYC's Javitz center is brilliant. The place is HUGE and can accomodate anything and everything. You have your sections dedicated to comics, artists, Bandai, Marvel, DC, statues, games, Batman, The Avengers, t-shirts, fangs, memorobilia, celebs, an entire floor dedicated to anime, other goodies, etc. etc.

What was great about the show was that it had lots of everything. You want to check out new games? There were several big titles available for testing. You collect statues? New statues and test shots were out there to see. The anime section was about 1/2 the size of the entire Heroe's Con, so it was pretty impressive. Of course, the most entertaining part of any con are the costumes. As always you have a wide range, going from brilliant to absolutely awful. All enjoyable!

In all, I would say it was a lot of fun. Plus it's in NYC, so there's Times Square about 10-15 minutes away, Broadway shows, tons of restaurants, and anything else you can think of that you might want. Afterall, this is the city that never sleeps, and the CrossRoads of the World. Yep, a show this big would only fit in a city this big. Forget all those pint-sized shitty cons. NYC beats them all, hands down.

And now, the pics:
