Earlier this week I reviewed CAPTAIN CHINA. Today I have an interview with the writer CHI WANG!

-Where did you go to school for your art?
  • I attended High School of Art & Design in New York. Cartooning was my major.

-What first made you want to become a comic book artist?
  • I think it was just reading comic books at a young age. I enjoy the aspect of stories with images.

-How would you describe your style to people?
  • I would say it's a combination of Japanese anime and 80's cartoons.

-What inspires some of your subject matter?
  • Most of my inspirations comes from life experiences and encounters with people.

-Is there a decent art "scene" out your way - how would you describe it?
  • There is the Winter Park Art Festival held once a year here in orlando. It's a huge outdoor display of artists from all around America, you get to see some really unusual and unique stuff in terms of sculptures, painting, photography, and so on. The other would be Florida's largest comic book convention Megacon.

-What bugs you most about the comic world these days?
  • I see too many comic writers today writing for themselves and no writing for an audience.

-What would you consider an ideal situation for getting into a creative mindset and producing a book?
  • Talking with friends. I get to flesh out most of my best ideas in discussions.

-What are some of your plans for your work in the near future?
  • I have 2 more projects currently in the works right now. One is a zombie genre comic and the other is a vampire story set in medieval times. Both are slated to come out this year. There are also a few more book in the planning stages which I can hopefully kick start by the end of 2012.

-What do love most about creating comics?
  • Comic books offers a great deal of freedom and control over what you want to produce. It is only limited by your imagination.

  • Finding enough time and money to bring an idea in fruition, and to be able to sell the finish product to an audience.

-Which of your works would you say is your favorite, so far?
  • It would be without a doubt, Simpleton High. It is unrestrained and I can do whatever I want with the characters and stories.

  • Jesus Christ.

-What has surprised you most in your career so far?
