Review Tuesday: Captain China Volume 1 [Kindle Edition]

Okay, this is something I don't do too often, review a comic book. That's largely due tot eh fact that I hardly ever read comics anymore. In my opinion the comic book industry, very successfully, destroyed itself a couple decades ago trying to squeeze out every last dollar from the fans. Most people, your humble narrator included, gave up on the nonsense and decided to save money. Snazzy alternate covers and guest artists weren't enough to justify spending excessive amounts for books with dull storylines.

So now it takes innovative thinking independant comic book companies to reclaim the market. EXCEL COMICS gives us CAPTAIN CHINA only in digital format, geared directly for the Amazon Kindle. No chrome covers. No nonsense. Just good artwork and a good story.

Captain China was the product of a super soldier program but put in cryogenic sleep for five decades to wait for technology to complete the process. He's awakened in a strange new world, where China is a perfect blend of Communism and Capitalism exist hand in hand. He still has a job to do, and he does it!

After reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that this book contains everything that the industry lacks these days: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. You can read it and be amused by it. You can read it and be provoked by it. You can read it and be given cause to stop and think. But you will NOT read it and feel ripped off by it. You can tell a lot of thought went into this book, and in the 41 pages a LOT of ground is covered, but not too much that you're left scratching your head. The artwork is excellent. The hi-rez images on the Kindle Fire look brilliant. The writing isn't cheesy. This is a fun book worth reading. Support the little guys!
