Review Tuesday: Hit and Run

Photobucket

It's not often that I get into an advance screening so when I can i go for it. I was let into the new action rom / com HIT AND RUN which comes out this Friday!

I'll admit, the trailers I saw in the past didn't look too good, bordering on pathetically stupid. Additionally, I can't stand the weasel-faced Bradley Cooper. (Why is every dude named Bradley equipped with a ferret face? But I digress.) But Tom Arnold is in it, and he can be quite funny when used properly in a film, and Kristen Bell is easy on the eyes. Plus FREE MOVIE is FREE! I'm there!

The movie clocks in at 100 minutes. It gets off to a slow start. In fact, in the first 15 minutes you might even wonder where this whole thing is headed. However, once the show hits the road, everything picks up.

When Annie (Kristen Bell) gets a job offer in Los Angeles, her boyfriend Charlie (Dax Shepard) has four days to get her there. The only problem is that he's in witness relocation and LA is where his former criminal buddies live. Can he get Annie to her interview in time while not getting caught up in his dark past?

Of course not. Where would the fun of the movie be? Annie's ex-boyfriend, Gil (Michael Rosenbaum, Lex Luthor from Smallville) is very suspicious of Charlie and makes a mess of the entire road trip. That's when the fun really begins. The movie is fast paced and fun in a very low-brow kind of way. Somehow they mix in a little romantic comedy so that the ladies will have something enjoy in this adrenaline and testosterone infused flick. Is this Casablanca? No way. Is it entertaining? Absolutely, as long as you aren't easily offended. Will you like it? Well, I walked in expecting NOT to like it, and it really changed my opinion. The cast did a great job. There are a bunch of unlikable people in this movie, but the writing pulls them all together so you enjoy it as a whole. The story isn't the most far-fetched thing I've ever seen. And Kristen Bell is distractingly hot in every scene that she's in. The ladies will probably enjoy all the scenes with Bradley Cooper, Dax Shepard and Michael Rosenbaum, though all their faces beg me for a knuckle sandwich.

In the end, I'd call this worth watching. Definitely a good time. But I'm not planning on passing on Expendables 2 over this. It has a lot of action, but not THAT much.
