  • The horse. As a horse ages, its gums recede, exposing more and more of its teeth, and eventually the roots of its teeth. Thus the longer a horse’s teeth appear to be, the older the horse.

What is the “breakfast of champions” referred to in the title of Kurt Vonnegut’s 1973 novel?
  • A martini. In the novel the phrase (borrowed from Wheaties cereal) is used by a waitress whenever she serves the cocktail.

Which three states have only four letters in their names? How about the three states with five-letter names?
  • Four letters: Iowa, Ohio, Utah. Five letters: Idaho, Maine, Texas.
