irrefrangible \ir-i-FRAN-juh-buhl\, adjective:
  1. not to be broken or violated; inviolable: an irrefrangible rule of etiquette.
  2. incapable of being refracted.
This Baroque era word irrefrangible derives from a negation of the Latin root frangere meaning "to break," also the root of the word "fraction."
Chubby Monday
  • The unofficial holiday before Fat Tuesday and following Tubby Sunday. For one to truly understand the sacrafices of Lent, one must over-indulge the three days pre-ceeding Ash Wednesday. Also known as the un-Triduum
Co-worker 1: Man, you look like hell for a Tuesday! Are you gonna make it for Mardi Gras cocktails tonight?
Co-worker 2: Dude, you bet! I had a full Chubby Monday and am ready to keep it rollin'!
Trivia
What number was assigned to the phone installed in the White House in 1879 when Rutherford B. Hayes was president?
  • Number 1. Hayes rarely used the phone because the only other telephone in Washington, D.C., at the time was at the Treasury Department. And because there were no telephone operators or switchboards, the wires from Hayes’s phone ran from the White House telegraph room, out a window, to the Treasury Department.
