Ed Koch, former 3x mayor of NYC, passed away from congenital heart failure early this morning. He was 88.
Koch is regarded as the mayor who dragged NYC out of the pits of near bankruptcy of the 70s but if he were so good, then why did the party turn it's back on him and put Dinkins as the candidate? His years, while remembered largely by his taking the trains and asking constituents, "How am I doing?" will certainly be marred by the years of decay and violence he ruled over. In recent years he became a mouthpiece expounding the virtues of the Democratic party and lost the "sensibility" he always claimed was the hallmark of his political career.
