If you know anyone who lives in the Franklin Square / Garden City of Nassau County, NY (like I do) they will tell you that we have lizards! I don't mean as pets, but living wild. The story is that a shipment of lizards from Europe was lost and the Lacertids have adapted to the area nicely.
