- Rhetoric. the omission of conjunctions, as in “He has provided the poor with jobs, with opportunity, with self-respect.”
- Library Science. the omission of cross references, especially from a catalog.
Asyndeton came to English in the late-1500s from the Greek roots a- + syndetos literally meaning "not bound together."
navel gazing
- A pejorative term used to describe someone who is preoccupied with self-reflection and the understanding of oneself; preoccupation with attempts at understanding the psychological and/or existential meaning of the self.
