Baby elephant rejected by his mother is recovering

Here's a news item to tug at your cold heart strings...

In a Chinese animal reserve a newborn calf was removed from his mother after she had stomped on him. It was hoped that it was an accident and after rehabilitation the calf was reunited with the mother. Apparently she DID reject her own baby and stomped on him a second time. Rescuers were able the separate the two and save the calf. But to all you out there who think animals have no feelings, the little guy cried inconsolably for FIVE HOURS after the event. 

Since then the trainer and the calf have bonded. Both are doing well.
