I love NY: Local Lizards

The doorbell rang. There was an urgency to it. Like someone was smashing it for dear life. I opened the door to find Mrs. Bax0jayz standing there with something cupped in her hands.

When you think of New York many things come to mind. The Big Apple. The Yankees. The US Open. Empire State Building. The Hamptons. Niagara Falls. Lizards.

Lizards?!?!

Isn't New York a tad cold for lizards to survive in the wild?

Apparently NOT. Where I live in Nassau County we have wild lizards. We noticed them from the first time we set foot in our home back in 2001. Some good-sized squiggly lizards with flashing forked tongues were dashing about in the warm sun. The local lore states that a shipment of lizards got free and the little guys adapted and made themselves at home. The breed is lacertas and are more commonly known as ruins lizards or wall lizards.

Stacey had captured one of these lizards. I saw the same guy earlier in the day while I was cutting the lawn but herded him over to the junipers. Attached to this blog post are pics that I took with the Canon 350D.
