I sent an email to my senator requesting that he get to work and negotiate an agreement. This is the automated response I got:
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, as of midnight on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, there has been a lapse in federal appropriations, which means that the federal government is temporarily shutdown. Because of this, we are sorry to inform you that Senator Schumer’s office will not be able to perform certain functions during the shutdown period.
While we are able to receive email during the government shutdown, we will be unable to read, process and respond to emails until after the government reopens. If you have an emergency, please call 212-486-4414 and we will do our best to assist you. Again, thank you for writing to Senator Schumer. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if we can be of further assistance on this, or any other matter.
