Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Parts 1 & 2 (2012, 2013)

Batman month continues! Last week I reviewed the graphic novel by the same name. This week it's the very recent animated movie:

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Parts 1 & 2

Simply, this is an animated movie version of the classic Frank Miller series from the 80s. It's split in two 76 minute parts to separate the major themes: Part One, the return of Two Face, Part Two, the return of The Joker. I am really over-simplifying this. It still contains all the elements that made the original books incredible, but now that it's on a screen and animated it's even darker, more harsh, more brutal, more violent.
MORE BRILLIANT.

I watched both parts over one night. I'm pretty glad they broke it up the way they did because it gave me a chance for a breather. It seems crazy that 76 minutes could be so intense especially when dealing with an animated feature, but it is!

Amazing art. Perfect choices for the voice work. Impactful story. Perfection. Get yourself a copy and watch it!
