I know I said that this would be a month of BATMAN, but if I manage to get out and watch a movie, it's more timely and relevant to review sooner than later. Mrs. Bax0jayz and I have been trying to get out to see ANCHORMAN 2 since it came out and finally did so last weekend.
In 1980 Ron Burgandy and his news team were hired for the original line-up for the first 24 hour news network in the USA, GNN.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues picks up a couple years after the first movie, around 1980. Ron Burgandy (Will Ferrell) and Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) are married with a son and are working together as co-anchors. Everything gets moving when Veronica gets promoted and Ron gets fired. Ron leaves his life, and family in New York and headed back to San Diego where his life was hitting rock bottom. He's rescued with a promise of a fat paycheck and a job on the new 24/7 news channel GNN. Ron reassembles the team and headed back to New York to get a handle on his life again.
From that point on the movie is a series of odd twists and turns that are pretty amusing. Actually, the material was very funny but having already seen the original ANCHORMAN, much of the wind in the sails is taken out. If you never got to see the original, you'd probably really get a kick out of this. David Koechner as Champ Kind is funnier. Paul Rudd is actually really great as Brian Fantana, even though I can't stand him in any other movie. Steve Carrell's Brick Tamland STEALS the movie. The entire cast does a great job. It's just that the movie suffered from, been there done that. It's not an original idea so it loses some of its luster this time around.
At this point the movie is almost out of the top ten in weekly ticket sales, but having grossed nearly $140 mill, I'm sure it's paid for. It is nearly two hours of foolish fun. Enjoy picking out all the big name cameos. I imagine the DVD / Blu-Ray will have some fun extras.
