Review Tuesday: Big Reeno - Watch My Indie Throne

I don't get too many opportunities to review a record before it comes out. I was offered BIG REENO - Watch My Indie Throne before tax season ended, so couldn't get it done in advance. I'm a little late to the game, sorry about that!

In case you're not familiar with the name, Big Reeno is hip hop. The first single The Rain featuring Dizzy Wright and Steve Stone would feel familiar as it's already being played in major markets on top 40 stations that feature r&b and urban music.

The official bio:
Big Reeno is a young, emerging music sensation, whose unique brand of Hip Hop has earned him accolades and fans from across the country. Calling Fargo ND home, Big Reeno has been writing and performing music since the tender age of seven and has worked, toured and performed with artists such as Nelly, Tech N9ne, MGK, Sean Kingston, T-pain, The Game, Flo Rida, Taio Cruz, Rittz, Chingy, Murs, ILL BILL, Nipsey Hussle and more.

Big Reeno has performed shows all over the country and recently concluded a tour in Asia, performing the biggest show in Sri Lanka history with over 12,000 people in attendance. In 2010, Reeno released his critically acclaimed debut album MIDWEST HEAVYWEIGHT, which included singles such as "My Emotions", "Get Your Rock On" and fan favorite "Brush It Off". The success of the album led to Reeno touring all over the country. Since the release of his debut, Big Reeno has released a couple of free mixtapes, choosing to focus mainly on touring and building his fan base one live show at a time.

In April 2014, Reeno will be releasing a brand new EP called WATCH MY INDIE THRONE. This project will consist of 7 new songs and feature a couple of guest appearances from notable acts such as R&B/Pop star Sean Kingston and more.
Watch My Indie Throne consists of seven tracks and many collaborative works. Big Reeno's voice is strong and clear, but I wouldn't exactly call it distinct. He reminds me a lot of Ice Cube, and that's not a bad thing. His voice is strong when it needs to be, but he also shows he's multifaceted by taking it down a few notches when he's pouring out his soul.

The production is clean and as sharp as you would expect modern hip-hop acts to be.

I wouldn't call this record ground-breaking but it's not archaic either. It fits into today's urban scene nicely. If this sounds like something that appeals to you, give WATCH MY INDIE THRONE by BIG REENO a shot.
