Now that tax season is over I can finally catch up on living. The first movie I chose to see was
Captain America:
The Winter Soldier
The Winter Soldier
A legendary hero from the past has to deal with an old foe in the present.
That is, perhaps, an oversimplification of the plot of a movie that clocks in at over two hours. We start off with Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans) living life as a regular guy in Washington DC, going on missions and being a likable, charismatic, bad-ass. He stumbles across layers of intrigue within SHIELD after the assassination of Nick J. Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and is implicated in a conspiracy. He has to go on the run with the assistance of Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow, (Scarlett Johansson) to track down the true story.
Of course our heroes find out that Cap's arch-nemesis from World War II, HYDRA, was preparing a massive global take-over which would enslave the population. The worst part was that it was growing the entire time within SHIELD! To make matters worse, Hydra's star assassin, The Winter Soldier, is really Cap's own lifelong friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) who had been brainwashed, modified and manipulated by Russian forces and Hydra over the decades.
Cap and Black Widow had to scramble to prevent the evil plot from hatching. Enlisted in the job is Sam Wilson, code name Falcon, who used advanced flying wings apparatus. Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) shows up again to reveal that Fury isn't dead at all and they go on the offensive.
The climax of the movie is as much action and explosions as you would expect and it carried right into the end of the movie which teases you with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for the upcoming Avengers 2 movie.
These days comic book movies are serious business. The cast is great. The script is well written. The direction is top of the line. Seamless special effects. This movie does well on all score cards. It was a long movie that kept your interest and was a blast to watch. I highly recommend this movie for comic book fans as well as people who have no interest in such things. Fun movie!More on
