With the new movie opening tomorrow there will, undoubtedly, be a run on turtle hatchlings as pets...
Truth be told, all animals carry bacteria on them. So do we. The salmonella scare is just a deterrent for people who are easily swayed and gullible. But the real story to consider is that a pet turtle is a lifetime commitment. A red-ear slider can easily live 20-25 years. If you treat them well they can live INDEFINITELY. Before buying a child a "ninja turtle" you should first consider having this pet in your life for a long time. If you can't handle that, then buy the toys.
