Review Tuesday: KMFDM - OUR TIME WILL COME

After thirty years of making music, industrial metal band KMFDM is doing it again! KMFDM (originally Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, loosely translated as "no pity for the majority") has put out their 19th studio album with OUR TIME WILL COME (available on Metropolis Recorsds in the USA), and only the fifth record that did NOT have a five character title.

I've been a fan of KMFDM for years now and when I saw the pre-order pop up I got on the list ASAP.

When I first played this album I felt shocked that they didn't use the name of the first song GENAU as the album name. Five characters and being about releasing your inner German? Isn't that a shoe-in? Regardless of how good that song is, the general flavor of the record is very serious. 

For years Sascha Konietzko has been writing songs that are fun, yet socially aware, and bathed them in heavy guitars and the ultra-heavy beat. This album is no exception. However, as I mentioned before, the lyrics are more dire than ever. Perhaps the way things are going all over the world, and especially in the USA, Kaptain K felt more of a need to address social injustices. Some issues you can expect to hear the band touch upon would be: the NSA spying, lack of respect, loss of civil rights, general politics, police state, and they even quote the Founding Fathers of the United States. 

I definitely feel that this is a more thoughtful and provocative record than we are used to from KMFDM. It's still aggressive, potent, brutal, and hard, like you'd expect the music to be, but none of that "and the kids just love it" stuff. 

So here you go. Over 48 minutes of new KMFDM. It's no joke. It's serious and seriously good. Perhaps not the most original sounding record, but it's 100% that KMFDM sound. Get it, and listen to it. It's available TODAY!!!
