Review Tuesday: X-Men: Days of Future Past

I'm a little late with this one...

X-Men: Days of Future Past
When a plan to eradicate mutants called the Sentinel Program goes awry and all human life lies on the brink, Logan has to travel back in time to alter a defining moment in history.
I remember working in the stationery store when this storyline hit. It was big and the controversial comic book cover blew the minds of fans.

The movie starts off in the future with a handful of mutant survivors. This is mostly the cast of the earlier X-Men movies. This is what baffled many of the fans. When X-Men: First Class came out, many thought that it was a reboot. No, it was a prequel and the story-lines intersect in THIS movie.

In the bleak future the Sentinel program ran amok, destroying all human life. Their initial intention was to eradicate the mutant menace. Subsequent generations of Sentinels could determine if your bloodline could yield a mutation and YOU were killed. Additionally, because of an action that Raven / Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) takes in the early 70s, her DNA is captured and used in the program to create indefatigable and nearly indestructible Sentinels.

The movie is about the twists and turns that Logan / Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) has to go through in going back in time and, with the assistance of a younger Xavier (James McAvoy), Henry McCoy / Beast (Nicolas Hoult), and Eric / Magneto (Michael Fassbender) trying to prevent Raven from committing that murder. Of course nothing can go easily of by plan and it's a nail-biter right up to the ending.

I can't tell you how accurate this movie is to the pages of the comics but I can tell you that it's cohesive story and is very entertaining. I think I had previously read that there were problems with the timeline paradoxes in the movie, but it's a comic book movie. Take it for what it is. If you are willing to sit down and be entertained by the notion of superhuman mutants, then you can certainly live this this.

Great cast. Great special effects. A lot of fun. Worth your time to watch.
