Review Tuesday: Dirty Grandpa (2016)

DIRTY GRANDPA
After his grandmother passes away, Jason (Zac Effron) is asked by his grandfather (Robert De Niro) to drive him to his vacation home in Boca Raton.
Honestly, I had no intention to see this movie, but Mrs. Bax0jayz wanted to go to the movies before tax season started and this Rated R comedy was what she set her heart on.

I was surprisingly pleased with the choice!

Jason (Effron) and Meredith (Julianne Hough) were working on wedding plans when his grandmother died. After the funeral his grandfather (Dick Kelly played by Robert De Niro) requested that he drive him to the vacation home that he traveled to annually. Along the way Jason learns that his grandfather is a foul-mouthed dirty old man who is hell bent on getting laid. The rest of the movie is about their mis-adventures while Jason learns about the true meaning of life from his grandfather.

The movie was way funnier than I ever expected. Zac Effron plays the no-nonsense yuppie lawyer perfectly while De Niro is the perfect tough as nails retired military guy on the search for female. I would like to add that Aubrey Plaza as Lenore was surprisingly hilarious and was, at times, a scene stealer.

Be warned, if you freak out over plot holes and inconsistencies, you might be very unhappy with this movie. I mean, how is Jason a lawyer while the girl he went to photography class with is still in college?!?! If you want to see a series of dirty jokes, then this is the movie for you. A funny movie worth watching that came out at a bad time. If you wait for it to come to TV, you might be disappointed because I am not sure how most stations (except for HBO) would deal with the lewd and mature content.
