Review Tuesday: Under The Skin (2013)

A couple years ago they made a big deal about this movie. Scarlett Johansson was finally nude in a movie. No one said anything about the story or any of that. So I wanted to see why a movie that finally featured a fully nude Scarlett was in and out of theaters almost immediately.

UNDER THE SKIN
A mysterious woman seduces lonely men in the evening hours in Scotland. Events lead her to begin a process of self-discovery.
Let me tell you off the bat, Scarlett plays an alien. You are always suspicious that there is something paranormal going on, but the images are so surreal, you can never be sure. She has to lure lonely men who won't be missed for... for what? They seem to get swallowed up by the floor. But for what purpose? Then there's this motorcycle guy who goes around cleaning up her messes. But what is their connection? Is he a servant? Is she HIS servant? They never speak a word to eachother so you never know. At one point they show a bunch of bikers. Are they all in on this too?

Despite the fact that this movie was hailed by critics as wonderful cinematic art I found it terribly lacking. Sure, Scarlett Johansson looked amazing during her completely nude time on the screen, but that didn't carry a movie for me, and apparently not even for the leg-humping masses.

The ending was weak and made me research the movie to see what I missed. I found out this was based on a book, so now I want to get a copy to see how badly it was massacred to bring it on to screen.

This movie was crap. Artsy-fartsy bullshit. Just look at the screen-caps of Scarlett on the net and save two hours of your life.
