Review Tuesday: JUSTICE LEAGUE [2017]

JUSTICE LEAGUE
Batman and Wonder Woman assemble a team of extraordinary people to fight the invasion of Steppenwolf.
Yeah, I'm still catching up on the hero movies of 2017 while the new crop of 2018 films are already rolling out. Oh well. Been busy.

Following the events of BvS the world is in danger from an ancient force known as Steppenwolf. Batman and Wonder Woman team up to assemble a team of "meta-humans" to defend the planet. So we are introduced to The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. Of course, Superman is reanimated and comes back to his senses right in the nick of time.

After the disappointment of SUICIDE SQUAD, the studio didn't want to put out another diamond in the really-really-rough. So they brought in Joss Whedon to smooth out the rough edges and make something less disjointed and make something more coherent out of the raw material. I think that it was mostly successful. The movie was certainly entertaining for a comic book fan. Plus they maximized the role of the stunning Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and minimized the role of the awful Ben Affleck.

If you're NOT new to this blog, you probably already know that I dislike Ben Affleck both as an actor and as a human being. His interpretation of Batman is terrible. Smiling? Dry wit? Did it ever open a Batman comic? People used to ride Christian Bale for his raspy Batman voice, meanwhile Ben's raspy Batman voice is laughable.

Was JUSTICE LEAGUE a great super-hero movie? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. I am glad I got to watch it and didn't hate myself for spending the time watching it. In the end you kinda feel a little let down. Sort of like, that's all there is? But it was a fun ride, the new characters were developed well enough and they were likable while focusing on the charms of the lovely Gal Gadot and reducing the role of this awful Batman.
