Review Tuesday: KMFDM - PARADISE

KMFDM
PARADISE

The TWENTY FIRST album from KMFDM, PARADISE is something else, indeed. Off the bat, even a casual fan will notice the title of the record is more than five characters! But that's not all...

The last time I saw KMFDM live I was surprised to see a chick running out on stage playing a lefty strat. Was I surprised to find out it was Andee Blacksugar from the local guitar scene. Cool for him that he scored a spot on the ship with Cap'n K. What I didn't realize was that that was the start of a new collaboration. This new record has all sorts of new sounds and feels, while retaining that distinctly KMFDM ultra-heavy beat. Polished work, well-produced.

From the first listen, I liked this record. In fact Mrs Bax0jayz, who generally doesn't care for KMFDM, even liked it very much as well. What still surprises me is that there are several sonds with titles that would've fit the usual KMFDM five-character album title, but none were chosen. However, choosing PARADISE is fairly brilliant as it might be one of the most cynical songs on the album. Afterall, this world is a paradaise, a paradise for assholes!

While so many songs are so good, I would declare my favorite track would be WDYWB, which stands for Who Do You Wanna Be? It's catchy and draws you in and could see life as a Goth club dance track.

In a nutshell, I love this album and, currently, have it on main rotation in my car right now. A must for any KMFDM fan.
