Review Tuesday: The Mandalorian Season 1

The adventures of a Mandalorian bounty hunter.

I have never been impressed with the Mandalorians. There have been all sorts of fan fiction as well as other tales that recount their brutal exploits. From the movies I saw one, Jango Fett, get decapitated pretty quickly by Mace Windu. His son, the legendary Boba Fett,was defeated by a blind man and a hole in the ground. Not exactly the stuff of legends in my book. But this is a part of the STAR WARS universe so I gave the series a try despite being on the new premium DISNEY+ channel. 

Created by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, aka Mando, aka Din Djarin. Mando has a reputation for getting the job done,and doing it swiftly and efficiently. When he is given an unconventional job from an Imperial source, that's when things get out of hand. That is when "Baby Yoda" is introduced and the entire world fell in love. 

The season ran eight episodes, but only the first episode ran an hour. Subsequent episodes ran from 30 - 40 minutes each. The cast is stellar, filled with all sorts of big names. But the story is the draw, and not the star-power of the parade of celebs in this series.

Each episode of the series is a solid coherent work with movie quality special effects, an array of strange aliens, and, as you would expect, nods to the entire Star Wars universe. 

Jon Favreau did such an amazing job with this that Season 2 has already been green-lighted. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some more Star Wars work int he future. Honestly, Favreau has had such good luck with his films that Disney will probably just throw money at him in the future. Maybe let him do another SOLO movie? There talks about more Star Wars series as well as one-off films so anything is within the realm of possibility at this point. 

At any rate, if you are a Star Wars fan, do give this series a shot. It's really a lot of fun and worth your time to view.
