Review Tuesday: Oculus (2013)

Is 'Oculus' on Netflix? Where to Watch the Movie - New On Netflix USA

Oculus

(2013)
Siblings attempt to set a trap for a paranormal mirror.
Recently this movie was suggested by AMAZON for our viewing pleasure, so Mrs Bax0jay z queued it up for date night viewing.

The movie starts off with Tim getting released from a mental ward. The belief is that he is, psychologically, taking responsibility for some crime he committed as a child. As he leaves, his doctor warns that he's been in therapy all these years and his sister has not. Be sure to protect his progress.

The rest of the movie is a slow build. It bounces back and forth between the current day and the past. showing you what is currently going on with this haunted mirror as well as the back story and how they are in this situation. There are also many scenes that are a blend of both.

Needless to say, since they tell you what had happened in the past, you wait, and wait, AND WAIT to finally see what conspired all those many years earlier.

I would say that the cast, mostly, does a pretty good job, the story and suspense are developed at such a slow pace that it's hard to keep interest. Then, after one and three quarters hours invested, you can't be completely sure if the ending was because of paranormal activity or another psychotic episode.

I would call this movie well polished but, largely, unrewarding.
