The Electric State
(2025)
In the future, robots rise up against their human creators.
My BFF wanted to see this during tax season. I was working way too hard and needed an escape. At the time, this movie was all the rage. A sci-fi movie starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt? You would think it was the greatest thing since Casablanca...
After a violent uprising robots had negotiated a deal and were banished to worthless land where people weren't so that there would be no problems. However, when a robot showed up at the home of Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) she embarks on an adventure to try to find her long lost brother. Along the way she enlists the help of Keats (Chris Pratt) and, ultimately the robots lead by Mr Peanut (Woody Harrelson) to overthrow the evil corporation that is up to no good.
Honestly, I was disappointed this this. It's was a thinly veiled political commentary rehashing the tropes of evil corporations and the plight of the under-classes. While the special effects were actually quite good, and the film is pretty polished, I am just sick and tired of the same story points that Hollywood keeps rehashing.
