This is the time of year when there's a LOT of boozing going on. And it seems that now, more than ever, people are trying to find new ways to avoid the dreaded hangover. There's all sorts of products out there to combat this affliction, but they all come at a cost. There's also a number of old fashioned home remedies that usually cause you to feel even more ill.
Years ago, before he turned evil, Mark seemed pretty close to a good solution. He said that after a night of drinking booze, have as much water as you can handle just before you sleep. That's not always a great idea as your stomach is already in unrest and drinking a lot of water could churn things up worse and then just watch the projectile vomiting commence.
Close, but no cigar. As I understand, the symptoms of a hangover are largely due to dehydration caused by the alcohol. So, yes, hydration can head off this problem. However drinking a gallon of water before hitting the sheets is not the most comfortable solution. Instead, you should be drinking water along with any booze your having. For instance, I enjoy drinking beer. So I will drink one glass of water as I drink two pints of beer. I know it slows the flow of beer intake, but at the end of the night you don't really need to hydrate much more. I might have another pint of water during the course of the night and wake up fresh as any other day.
So remember, the next time you order your pitcher of beer, or any other booze, order a glass of water to go with it and keep them coming. That will go a long way to a happy waking the next morning.
