On DVD: Heavy Metal 2000

I have always wanted to see the movie Heavy Metal. It's legendary. The crude animation. The crude subject matter. The music, oh the music!

So I saw HEAVY METAL 2000 in the video store and rented it.

As it started I figured out that this wasn't the original just touched up, it's an entirely new movie, hence the name Heavy Metal 2000.

The concept of the movie is okay. Some dude is in search of some ancient artifact to become truly immortal. Along the way he kills tons of people. All along there' s the wonderful rocking soundtrack.

The animation is pretty okay. It looks like the people who did Disney's Gargoyles, except not as consistent. People look different here and there and proportions end up askew. At times it was a little aggravating to watch. Plus the lifeless voice-over work by some of the actors ***koff*** ***koff*** ***Julie Strain*** didn't help at all... especially when she's the lead! She should stick with being a nude model and keep away from acting.

I must say, I was a little disappointed. I didn't know what to expect, but I was hoping for more than I got. It's not too long, and won't bore you to death if you have nothing better to do. But if you like high end animation, I'd say pass on this. The droning on will put you to sleep.

Yeah, it was just alright. I actually enjoyed the original one much more despite the cheeziness. I remember when my parents took my brother to see our first movie (Star Wars) at a drive-in. It was a double feature and I was six, my bro was four. Mom and dad had no idea what the second movie was about (Heavy Metal) but shortly after it began, I remember my dad hitting ghe gas pedal and the family station wagon tearing out of there as fast as an old station wagon could possibly go. And it was just getting good!
